Tuesday Tip: Le Dress, Event Tomorrow Night
March 22nd, 2011Holiday Wedding
February 28th, 2011By now you should know that I love winter weddings! I was really excited when I met Katy and Billy and they told me they were getting married at Holy Name Cathedral and their reception was going to take place at The Chicago Cultural Center on December 4, 2010.
Katy and Billy have such big, fun, sweet personalities and everyone involved on their special day went out of their way to show them just how special they are.
Katy looked absolutely gorgeous walking down the aisle at Holy Name. Her glamorous gown was perfect for the grand cathedral.
Katie Powell from Fleur Du Jour made beautiful and elegant bouquets and they matched the eggplant purple bridesmaids dresses perfectly.
By the time the ceremony was over it had started to snow. They were such good sports about it; they really embraced the weather and all it had to offer.
They drove around town in a trolley provided by The Chicago Trolley and Double Decker Co. The entire bridal party had a blast staying warm inside the trolley and toasting the happy couple.
How romantic is this picture? I just love it, it’s like a winter wonderland. I still can’t believe Katy didn’t wear any winter boots, she really was determined to keep her wedding day look.
At the Chicago Cultural Center they had a slight holiday theme for their reception. It wasn’t over the top but they did have some really great features. My favorite was the Christmas tree that was placed in the entrance of the reception hall that was decorated with family pictures. Guests who brought gifts to the party placed them under the tree. It was really cute. At the end of the night we passed out Christmas ornaments as party favors, which were a big hit!
G.A.R Memorial Hall has never looked so elegant and warm. It was perfect for December. Everything was rich in tone with warm golds and purples; which was a nice change from traditional green and red holiday decor. Food for Thought provided an amazing three course seated dinner.
Dena from Toast and Jam rocked the dance floor all night. The crowd was so much fun and at the end of the night they were seriously yelling “one more song!” It was as if there had been a live band!
It was such a pleasure working with Katy and Billy and Clementine wishes them all the happiness in the world!

Amazing Flowers
July 13th, 2010I just love these flowers so much I had to feature them!!
Kristin and Jeff got married on May 22nd at The University Club. Their wedding was fabulous from start to finish (for more pictures check out their gallery on the Clementine Custom Events website). A Stem Above really outdid themselves with these rich and colorful bouquets and centerpieces. So many guests commented on the stunning flowers. I was asked many times “who provided the flowers?” It was my pleasure to tell them it was A Stem Above.
The bridesmaid’s bouquets were just as gorgeous at the brides bouquet. I loved how lush and colorful they were and they matched their dresses prefectly. The bride’s bouquet had such unique features, it really stood out from the rest of the floral yet it was cohesive at the same time. Every detail was perfect and nothing was over the top, it was all the right size, color, shape and texture.
Tuesday Tip: Limited Wedding Dresses
June 16th, 2010If you are looking for a fashionable wedding dress consider The Limited. They have recently announced that they are now carrying a wedding line including wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, jewelry and hair accessories. The best part: They are REALLY affordable. I love how the dresses are trendy yet classic.
These two stylish wedding dresses are under $300.00.
These adorable bridesmaid dresses are something your bridesmaids can actually afford AND wear again. They come in multiple colors are are priced well under $100.00. That is something for your bridesmaids to smile about! Now they can afford shoes and accessories too.
Stay stylish and save some money for other wedding attire details like hair accessories, shoes and jewelry.
Tuesday Tip: Check out “I Do: Chicago Ties the Knot” at the Chicago History Museum
June 8th, 2010You must go and check out this fantastic new exhibit at the Chicago History Museum! I had the pleasure of attending an industry opening last week and had a wonderful time. The exhibit reminded me a lot of “Chic Chicago” if you had a chance to view that fantastic exhibit last year.
“I Do! Chicago Ties the Knot”, is really a wonderful collection of fashions, stories and accessories from weddings throughout time. The Chicago History Museum has an incredible collection of wedding gowns, suits and accessories dating back to the 1720′s. It’s so interesting to learn about past traditions and how they’ve changed over years. Some of the traditions have even stayed the same! Many of the old-fashioned styles have influenced the way brides celebrate today.
It would be really fun to take your bridesmaids to The History Museum before or after a bridal brunch, maybe you’ll get some new ideas for your own big day! The exhibition run through January 3, 2011.
Wine Country Wedding
May 13th, 2010Congratulations Amanda and Craig!
This stylish couple live in thriving Los Angeles. They are both extremely into music, food and lots of laughs! They really took their personal style and ran with it at their October 31, 2009 wedding. Every aspect of the wedding screamed the two of them. I’ve never seen such a fun, laid back and yet glamorous wedding. Amanda and Craig really found a way to be themselves and still make the guests feel extremely welcome and comfortable.
Their destination was Temecula, California. A much smaller version of Napa Valley. The downtown area was just adorable and all the vineyards were stunning. Amanda and Craig got married in front of mountains, vineyards and all their loved ones. The ceremony was really special, as you can see, everyone is laughing and having fun!
The bridal party had an amazing time all day! The bride chose BCBG dresses for the bridesmaids which really added some LA style to the event. Amanda’s fun and playful personality is reflected in her floral choice, these bouquets are bright and fun, just like the bride.
The groomsmen wore chocolate brown pin stripe suits which was perfect for an October wedding. The adorable ring bearer couldn’t have looked more LA with his fantastic little suit, orange bow tie and sneakers. He certainly almost stole the show!
The color and decor for the wedding had a lot of pop. The linens were chocolate brown pintuck and the floral/decor was bright, vibrant orange and fuchsia with little accents of gold. Look at all these great details:
The whole evening was really well thought out. The couple didn’t want a formal event so they chose to lighten up the atmosphere with stations of delicious food in place of a traditional sit down plated meal. They served mini cup cakes in place of a traditional wedding cake.
The guests and the happy couple danced all night long to all their favorite songs. Their first dance was “Pictures of You” by The Cure. The bride changed out of her fantastic heels and into hot pink Converse sneakers. All the personal touches really made their wedding unique.
As the night was coming to and end, the bride and groom made sure to take a time out and really enjoy each other. Even though this party was full of fun, laughter and personality, they also save a little room for romance!
Staying true to their bold personalities, the couple left the party with a bang! They ran through all the guests holding lit sparklers and ran into their get away car. It gave all the guests one last chance to yell “Congratulations”
I’m always advising my clients to be themselves and to really add a lot of personal touches! Craig and Amanda did just that and look how well it turned out. They’ll be able to look back on their wedding years from now and remember not only how special their ceremony was but also how much fun they had!
Tuesday Tip: Grey is the new Brown
March 23rd, 2010Chocolate brown has taken the wedding and event industry by storm…..it’s as if brown was the new black! Over the past 5 years brown as evolved from being partnered with light pink and baby blue to apple green to fuchsia and orange. Chocolate brown is obviously a fantastic color but I’m really excited about the new trend….dark grey!
This fantastic dark pewter/steel color is really making weddings have a modern flair. I love it as shown below with orange for a modern take on autumn.
This deep grey color looks sophisticated on their simple and elegant wedding cake.
Look how sharp all the men look in their grey suits – I just love this look!
How adorable are these grey “Audrey Hepburn” inspired bridesmaid dresses?
Grey and yellow is so fresh – these invitations are perfect for a spring or summer wedding.
I included this picture in a previous post “Spring has Sprung” because I am in love with the color combo and modern lines.
Dark grey is really versatile, it matches wonderfully with many colors which means the color is virtually perfect for any season.
Mix it up – don’t feel that you need to only use two colors, using 3 or 4 colors is very stylish. I have a client this October using various shades of purple, dark grey and black. Or for a fresh summer wedding grey grey, kelly green and white! The possibilities are endless.
Spring has Sprung
March 15th, 2010It might still be chilly in Chicago but I know you are all just as anxious as I am for spring to officially arrive. My heart is singing over these adorable shots I found. Spring always makes me feel so happy and warm – these spring ideas will do the same. I hope you enjoy!
I’ve always been a huge fan of decor hanging from the ceiling. How fun are these fantastic flowers? They are so energetic and colorful, they just scream spring. This would be perfect for a rehearsal dinner, birthday party or casual wedding reception.
I love this romantic tabletop because it is so simple and elegant. The flowers really stand out and make a statement. I wish I was having brunch at this table and sipping a mimosa!
Individual bud vases can create a really great look. I’ve seen lots of bud vases and mason jars recently and I think they make a fresh statement.
I LOVE this picture! These fantastic yellow dresses (from J.Crew) paired with the men’s dark grey suits look very modern and trendy. Everyone is obsessed with gray and I love it. Yellow and Grey, Orange and Grey, Purple and Grey are all wedding color combos I can look forward to this season.
All these pictures and ideas have gotten me really excited for spring. I can’t wait till the sun comes out and stays out!
What are some ideas you have for spring?
Modern Style:Traditional Wedding
January 14th, 2010Congratulations to Kim and Zach!!! Not only for recently getting married but also for creating the perfect combination of traditional and modern style. Their traditional wedding really had a lot of great modern features.
To start, the couple chose a fantastic venue. The Grand Ballroom at the Joliet Union Station is a National Historic building and perfect for your wedding or corporate event. The Grand Ballroom can hold up to 350 guests and features amazing architecture, marble staircases and beautiful 45 foot ceilings with chandeliers.
The couple chose a really refreshing color palate of black, white and light blue with accents of bright green. It all pulled together beautifully. My favorite aspect of this wedding is the use of the modern black and white pattern that was showcased within many of the details from invitations, ceremony programs, linens and the wedding cake display. As you know, I LOVE patterns and texture. Kim and Zach’s eye for style really helped create a modern look yet they were able to keep the wedding traditional.
The bridal party looked sharp, sophisticated and perfect for summer. I love how the bridesmaids stand out in their blue dresses and yet the reception decor really focuses more on the black, white and green. Kim didn’t go overboard with the blue and it really worked well to incorporate more than just two colors.
This picture of the bride with her sister/Matron of Honor and her mom is so beautiful. Even the mother of the bride fits into the overall style of the wedding in her fantastic black and white dress (very chic).
If you find that you have always wanted a traditional wedding but you are more of a modern girl, use some of Kim’s ideas to create the best of both worlds. Have fun with your style and you’ll discover the perfect look for your big day!
